Preakness Stakes 2018 may not carry the same worldwide acclaim as the Kentucky Derby, for Justify and Bob Baffert, this meeting at Pimlico Race Course will be a momentous one.

Justify was excellent at Churchill Downs earlier this month to win the Derby, breaking the longstanding Apollo Curse and showing durability in difficult conditions. The champion will now be keen to follow in the footsteps of American Pharoah, a horse also trained by Baffert that won the Triple Crown in 2015.

Preakness Stakes 2018 – While he’s the heavy favourite to take the second of the three thoroughbred racing jewels, it’s not going to be totally straightforward for Justify and jockey Mike Smith.

Preakness Stakes 2018 is expected to have an eight-horse field (down from the 20-horse field at Churchill Downs a few weeks ago), including Kentucky Derby champ Justify. At nine-and-a-half furlongs, it’s the shortest of the three Triple Crown legs.

The race’s post positions will be drawn on Wednesday, so here’s how you can follow along.

The 143rd running of the Preakness Stakes 2018, the second leg of the Triple Crown, is set for Saturday, and the real previews and betting will start to come down now that we know the starting post for each horse in the field after Wednesday’s post position draw.

Justify, the winning horse of the Kentucky Derby, will start from the seventh post. It’s the same spot Justify started in the Derby. The last horse to win the Preakness from post seven was Lookin at Lucky in 2010, another Bob Baffert-trained horse.

It’s a much smaller field than the 20-horse Derby, and post position isn’t as big a deal as it is there. Still, you can see the full Preakness field and their starting posts below.

It’s a race that looks to be Justify’s to lose, and while anything can happen in these types of dashes, the favourite appears primed for another big performance.

He was relatively comfortable in Kentucky despite the conditions, while Smith has proved on so many occasions that he is one of the best jockeys in the business. Regardless of the circumstances, the veteran is unlikely to panic at any point.

Justify won the Derby as the favorite earlier this month, and all eyes will be on whether or not the Baffert-trained horse will be able to create some serious intrigue going into the Belmont Stakes, the final stop for the Crown. Justify became the first horse since Apollo in 1882 to win the Derby having not been raced as a two-year-old.

The Preakness Stakes 2018 is the second and shortest of the three Triple Crown events, with a length of 9 1⁄2 furlongs. Justify is, once again, generally considered the favorite for the Preakness, and the post draw likely won’t change that.

  • Throughout this great scheme of things you receive an A just for effort. Exactly where you lost me personally was on all the facts. As they say, details make or break the argument.. And that couldn’t be more correct here. Having said that, allow me reveal to you what exactly did deliver the results. The writing is highly engaging which is most likely the reason why I am taking an effort in order to opine. I do not make it a regular habit of doing that. Second, although I can notice a leaps in reasoning you make, I am not necessarily sure of exactly how you appear to connect your details which in turn make the actual conclusion. For the moment I will yield to your point however trust in the near future you connect your dots better.
